The New Google-Like, Virtualized Datacenter Building Block
How can you eliminate the complexity around storage for virtualization? Converged infrastructure, eg vBlock, Flexpod, etc, sounds like it would help, but why is it so expensive?
Join Nutanix to learn about a new approach to enterprise virtualization that eliminates the cost and complexity of a SAN. The award-winning Nutanix Complete Cluster converges compute + storage to enable virtualization without a SAN for greater simplicity with 10x price/performance of traditional server and storage architectures. We will deep-drive into this Google-like architecture to help you understand how you can obtain high performance virtualization powered by Fusion-io while still enabling enterprise data management features like VMware's HA, DRS and vMotion. Most importantly, is a 40-60% CAPEX savings too good to be true? Join us to learn about cutting-edge technology for your virtualization project and see a live demo.
FusionIO - will present their groundbreaking Acceleration technology, which extends the immense power of Accelerated servers to the VMWare environment. Come see how customers are able to gain 5X performance not just in one server, but across ALL virtual servers. FusionIO’s 1-2 punch of IO memory HW and IO Turbine SW will be discussed.
GreenPages’ Own Journey to the Cloud: How We Did It.
Presented by John Drew, Director of Information Technology
Audience Interactive Cloud 2.0 Workshop
Why reacting to events cannot guarantee Application Quality of Service
Abstract: Virtualization is a great enabling technology. Today we are asking it to do much more than simply monitor and alert – today we measure its success in terms of Application Quality of Service (QoS) and expect it to scale to the largest of environments.
Because of these requirements, it’s no longer acceptable to simply ‘react’ to an event – we must ‘prevent’ them from happening. It’s no longer acceptable to simply ‘load-shed’ (commonly mislabeled ‘load-balancing’) - we must in the absence of any specific problem or event take, in a holistic fashion, those steps necessary to assure Application QoS even when there aren’t enough resources to go through a traditional ‘balancing’ activity.
Fabrics 101: Essentials of Ethernet Fabrics : Get the story straight on Ethernet Fabrics.
Lately, it seems everyone is proclaiming "fabric" as the be-all and end-all solution for data center networking, virtualization, and cloud computing. With so much buzz, how do you decide if an Ethernet fabric is right for your organization?
This educational event will shed light on this emerging technology. Attend and you will learn about:
Protect and serve!
How to protect your applications and serve the best SLA for your virtual infrastructure!
In this white board interactive session we will discuss ways to protect your data leveraging your SANs features while addressing items such as crash consistent snapshots, application consistent snapshots and replication.
The nature of these features support you both in operational recovery as well as disaster recovery so why do you still need backups?........Backup methodologies have changed quite a bit over the last couple of years with the integration of vstorage APIs.......how are you leveraging these today?
Utilizing Cloud Technology to support BYOD, NAC, and Compliance
Consumerization is an unstoppable trend, and most organizations need to demonstrate flexibility and allow employees to use their personal devices for work. They also need to establish limits and not permit every device, every operating system and every configuration. Network and security managers will use Network Access Control (NAC) to retain control of the network in a ‘Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) environment.” Gartner and others have noted that though the BYOD challenge is new int the enterprise, educational institutions have been successfully addressing it for many years. Because Bradford Network’s early customers were primarily in the education field, the company has many years’ experience navigating BYOD issues and supports more user device types than any other NAC vendor.
“FlexApp: The last piece of the VDI puzzle”
Delivering User & Department Installed Applications
For many companies, managing large numbers of VDI images to accommodate all the needs of their users is just not workable today. But now, you can address the unique application needs for users both individually and by department with the last piece of the VDI puzzle, Liquidware Labs’ FlexApp. Combining VMware View and ThinApp with ProfileUnity and FlexApp technologies delivers one of the most powerful platforms on the market for desktops that transcends cross-OS constraints, delivers “fresh” non-persistent desktop VM with persistent user profiles, and now, department and user applications - so fewer images need to be maintained. FlexApp enables Windows 7-compatible applications to be stored separately from the OS yet 'snapped-in' in quickly at login based on the user profile. As a result, more types of users in your organization become viable candidates for VDI because they can now “tailor” the image and install applications as needed to be productive. Lower the cost of managing multiple images, streamline application virtualization strategies, keep end users happy, and manage your desktops easier than ever before.
Woodforest National Bank and Hypervisor-Based Replication – How one large bank reduced complexity and saved 30% on replication
· Using Hypervisor-based replication to reduce the amount of data that is actually replicated
o White space & non-relevant I/O on source LUNs
§ Potentially reduce production storage footprint just by changing data protection
§ Reduce target site footprint – replicate only essential data and not full LUN
§ Reduce bandwidth requirements – non-relevant I/O not replicated
§ Woodforest saw disk savings go down by 30% for disk associated with replication
· Remove the need for ghost/ shadow VMs at replication site
o Requires a similar cluster architecture or like performance
o Impact the software licensing costs
o Thin provision your clusters/hosts at the target to get the best performance:
§ The thinking being you will rarely if ever perform a full site failover, however you will periodically failover applications and systems as needed
§ You can provision enough resources for tier 1 and tier 2 and have tier 3 on a longer RTO service level
§ Less hosts = less ongoing power requirements
§ No Ghost vm’s = less ongoing power requirements
Why Legacy Backup Solutions Aren’t Meant for VMware Environments
Speaker: Gleb Evfarestov from Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center
What’s Next? The next phase on your virtualization journey.
Many people have virtualized their datacenters to some extent. Some have only done Test/Dev servers, others are approaching 80-90% virtualization, and a small group have virtualized 100% of their datacenter. However, there is still more work to be done before you are finished. What about Tier 1 Applications? Backup and Archiving? Disaster Recovery? Virtual Desktops? And what is all of the buzz around ‘The Cloud’? Is that something that applies to me, or just to big multinational companies?
Questions like these surround most virtualization efforts within the datacenter. Join Mosaic Technology for one of their unique whiteboard sessions for an interactive approach to solving some of these questions. Mosaic can help you discover the answers and prepare for the next phase of your virtualization journey.

Title: “vCloud Services: IT’s Secret Weapon”
IT organizations are under constant and extreme pressure to justify the ongoing costs of delivering IT services. Many are leveraging or evaluating public cloud deployment models to provide efficient, highly protected and seamlessly scalable IT infrastructures. However many lack the resources or in-house expertise to build and maintain such environments. vCloud Services is the secret weapon IT organizations can use to securely access and harness the power of a hybrid cloud environment from their existing vSphere and vCloud environments. Through a demonstration, architectural diagrams, network analysis, and performance data used in successful iland customer deployments, attendees will better understand the networking, storage, security and availability considerations required for a successful hybrid cloud deployment.
1. Attendees will discover valuable guidelines for maximizing their existing vSphere investments by leveraging VMware’s vCloud technologies
2. Attendees will better understand how emerging technologies such as the vCloud API, vShield Edge and the vCloud Connector allow vSphere admins to securely extend and manage their local and cloud based resources from a single pane of glass
is Business justification for VDI
Building a business justification for Virtual Desktop – In this session we will discuss building a ROI and TCO analysis as it relates to virtual desktop. We will also discuss how to build an operational justification for deploying Virtual Desktop. We will include some examples from actual real world experience working with real life customers.
